MACKEREL

Mackerel are any of several widely distributed fishes of the Scombridae family. Mackerel have long, slender bodies, pointed heads and large mouths.

The flesh of mackerel is dark, rich, firm and moist and has a pleasant, sweet taste. Mackerel is high in protein and omega-3 fatty acids, and low in cholesterol.

Mackerel can be used interchangeably with salmon or tuna in many culinary applications. It can be mixed with mayonnaise to make mackerel salad. It is often used to make fish cakes or as an ingredient in casseroles and stews.
